To enable or disable Do Not Disturb (DND) on your FreePBX 17 extension from your handset or softphone, you will use specific feature codes. These codes are dialled like a regular telephone number.
Enabling Do Not Disturb (DND)
When DND is enabled, all incoming calls to your extension are automatically routed to your voicemail or another configured destination, without your phone ringing.
To enable DND:
- Lift your handset or open your softphone's dial pad.
- Dial the DND activation feature code.
- You will typically hear an audio confirmation that DND has been activated.
The most common default feature code for enabling DND is *78.

Disabling Do Not Disturb (DND)
When DND is disabled, your extension will receive incoming calls as normal.
To disable DND:
- Lift your handset or open your softphone's dial pad.
- Dial the DND deactivation feature code.
- You will typically hear an audio confirmation that DND has been deactivated.
The most common default feature code for disabling DND is *79.

- Feature Code Variation: While
78and79are the standard default codes, these can be customised by your system administrator. If these codes do not work, please contact your IT support for the correct feature codes specific to your FreePBX setup. - Visual Indication: Many IP phones and softphones will display a visual indicator (e.g., a DND icon or text) on their screen when Do Not Disturb is active.
- Impact on Calls: Remember that while DND is active, your phone will not ring for any incoming calls. Callers will usually be directed to your voicemail.
